Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Being a nurse in the hospitals and nursing homes opened my eyes to the needs of patients who just wanted to talk, whether about their illnesses or just wanting someone to sit with them for a while, but the busy life of a nurse doesn't allow for that. So I went into homecare nursing. There I not only saw the psychological need of the patient, but also that of the family members, and care givers. That propelled me to pursue a degree in mental health were I'm more able to provide the support that patients and families need, by providing a safe space where clients can talk about the various emotions that they may be going through, and together we work on treatment goals, and how I might be able to help them achieve those goals.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I approach counseling from an eclectic theoretical model, because I believe no two person are alike, in that, CBT might work wonders for one person, while solution focused therapy work best for someone else.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
Building trust. The client needs to feel comfortable enough to open up and verbalize their needs, and I should provide that space for them to build that trust with me.

Work HistoryHi, my name is Julia, and I am a licensed mental health therapist (LMHC). I have been a mental health therapist for about ten years now, counseling clients with various mental health needs. I approach counseling from an eclectic theoretical model, because I believe no two person are alike, in that, CBT might work wonders for one person, while solution focused therapy work best for someone else. Our first meeting will direct me as to which theoretical model I would be using with this particular client. I am certified in psychosocial oncology for individuals struggling with any cancer needs, be it the patient or family members who need that added support. I am also certified in trauma management therapy, specially geared towards first responders. You can find me in the Redline Rescue directory.
