Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I have had a longstanding interest in psychology, human behavior, and sociology. Psychology was my favorite class in high school. I still remember my teacher and some of the assignments! Many years later I started pursing psychology and then counseling and then a PhD to teach counselors-in-training and I haven't looked back. I have expereinced the benefits of talking with therapists in the past. We can all get in ruts from time to time. Sometimes a professional commonsense approach can make all the difference.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Clients can expect to be a little calmer and broaden their perspectives of themselves and possibly others. They can expect to have more coping skills and an awareness that might help them know when to use them. They might have more appreciation for themselves and increased ability to communicate with others. Clients can also expect a space to process thoughts and emotions. It will be collaborative with guiding questions.
If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?
The Gift of Therapy discusses the profound self understanding that can come from genuine and forged theraputic relationships between providers and clients.
