What is your style/approach to therapy?
I have a collaborative approach and utilize techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) , Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). I am especially passionate about using EMDR to help my clients find relief and transformation from trauma.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I entered college thinking I would be an environmental studies major but quickly discovered that I did not enjoy this coursework. As I started to explore other classes/majors, I found myself really enjoying both art and psychology classes. I continued to study both but decided to move forward with a bachelors degree in psychology after experiencing the benefits of therapy. I went on to pursue a graduate degree in counseling psychology and never looked back. I am so grateful that so many wonderful humans have invited me into their world to help them reach their goals and live their best life.
What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?
One of my favorite quotes is by Peter Levine: "Trauma need not be a life sentence. Of all the maladies that attack the human organism, trauma ultimately may be the one that is recognized as beneficial. I say this because in the healing of trauma, a transformation takes place- one that can improve the quality of life."
I have seen such great transformation from my clients. It's inspiring and an honor to witness.

Work HistoryHi! I’m Julia.
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an EMDR Therapist. I’m most passionate about helping people find relief and transformation from trauma.
My passion for this work has developed over the course of my career. When I started working in the mental health field in 2009, my focus was on helping children and families. As I progressed in the field, I began working with individuals of all ages and found myself most drawn to helping those who were struggling with trauma. I trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy before pursuing EMDR training. When I started EMDR training, from the very first day, I felt that this approach was special and I was eager to begin offering it to my clients.
Since then, I have integrated EMDR into my practice and I have seen such great transformation among my clients. EMDR is a well-researched, effective approach to help people heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences. I look forward to sharing it with you!
