Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Therapy simply wasn't done in the culture I was born and raised in! That doesn't mean it wasn't needed. I like people, I've always been curious by nature and it felt natural to want to know someone's story. I knew from a young age that I would do something in life to help people. While I was getting my bachelor's degree (at the time for Music Ed) I was working as a Veterinary Assistant (turns out that was a lot of grief support). I happened into a psychology class as a general requirement- after a few meetings with the Psychology Dept advisor, I made the switch, and it clicked.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
You are the expert on you. The driver of your own bus, if you will... I sit beside you helping you navigate the road map. Sometimes I'll point out potholes along the way, you get to decide what to do. (I like analogies!)
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
It's okay to be nervous, hesitant, and/or uncertain. That makes sense - opening up to a stranger is a vulnerable process. I wish people knew that when you find the right fit (safe, trusting, authentic rapport) in a therapist it can be a very rewarding experience opening the door to healing. It's also okay for it to take some time for that therapeutic relationship to develop.

Work HistoryHow did I get to where I am... simply put it's been a journey. There have been several career paths that I tried on before finding my fit as a therapist. I started my journey in the field working in Substance use treatment for a large health system, where I worked in many positions from case management, counseling, assessing, emergency response and into a leadership role. It was in my many years working in substance use recovery and community mental health care, that I honed the skills and belief that change is possible, even when it feels the most impossible and unlikely. I also learned that crisis doesn't shake me very much and that my ability to create a stable therapeutic relationship with my clients was so important. I got a ton of interesting and very valuable experience during this time, (I often tell my clients there's not much you can tell me that will shock, scare or deter me). Eventually, I grew fatigued with being in an leadership role and wanted to focus more of my time in sessions with clients. I made the move toward working with Primary Care Doctors consulting with support of supervised Psychiatry in order to get client's brief therapy sooner (turns out finding a therapist and a psychiatrist quickly is ridiculously challenging ... and it shouldn't be). I found my sweet spot- getting connected with people to support their whole health. I started working part time with a private practice and because of the medical world connections fell into supporting many with anxiety, depression, chronic health conditions, infertility and perinatal/postpartum concerns.
