Work History
I have a PhD in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Iowa and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Iowa and Wisconsin. I am a queer therapist and I have education and training for and experience working with individuals, couples, families, and parents who have trauma and who are queer. I have previously provided therapy at places such as Survival House Domestic Violence Shelter and the LGBTQ Counseling Clinic. At Survival House I saw individuals and families for ongoing therapy. I also designed and facilitated in-person therapy and support groups, including queer focused groups, both in house and as outreach. More recently I worked at the LGBTQ Counseling Clinic at the University of Iowa where I worked as a therapist and as the Associate Clinic Director. There I engaged in queer and gender-affirming mental health care, provided WPATH-informed psychosocial assessments and letters of support, and provided mental health care and support to individuals, couples, parents, and families who are often navigating a world that can be less than accepting. I am aware that queer people are more likely to have trauma and I have sought out additional education and certifications in Clinical Trauma, Family Trauma, and EMDR in order to help clients manage and process that trauma so that they can move forward. I'm an active LGBTQ+ Community member both personally and professionally. I've founded LGBTQ+ support groups, founded DEI subcommittees, been a Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil guest speaker and host, given queer talks at schools, given queer cultural competency guest lectures, participated in UIowa's #PrideMonth Research Series, and been involved in other queer community events.
