In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?
My philosophy in life and in therapy is that relationships ultimately make life worth living and that I want to "live dangerously" rather than a self protective avoidance of hard things that ultimately feels constricting. We grow in confidence and trust as we do hard things and see our capacity stretched. We either win or we learn. I believe that seeking pleasure and avoiding pain does not ultimately lead to satisfaction, but rather the cultivation of virtue which bears meaning and purpose. I believe that our ultimate identity is found not only in 'who we are' but in 'whose we are' and that connection with our Creator and existential realities helps us connect well with others. I also love to learn and believe that “If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will be forced to take time for your illness.”

Work HistoryI have been a counselor for about 10 years now and have always enjoyed working with trauma. I began at an adult prison and have also worked at an adolescent residential dual diagnosis facility as a family counselor, as a parent coordinator/decision maker in the legal system and now with outpatient individuals, whether they have a struggle they've been working with for years or they would like to deal with things now so that they can flourish instead of problems compounding. I often work with individuals who have tried counseling before and didn't feel like it was a great fit with their old counselor or they didn't make the progress they hoped for. I typically start by reviewing what has been tried and then support in determining how to try something new.
