Get To Know Me
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
I wish people knew that the basis of therapy is relationship. You and I can take it slow and will begin by simply building rapport and getting to know one another. It may not feel deep and intense out of the gate and that is ok. A good therapeutic journey starts with a strong therapeutic relationship. The science shows us this. when you click with your therapist, you make better and faster progress in your work.
What does a first session with you look like?
In our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and work to discern what your goals are for our treatment together. we will look to answer the question of "when you leave here, what would look different in your life for you to feel successful?" I will also ask you some questions about your life to get a better sense of your context and the world you live in. This helps to give me a better sense of your whole person. There will also be space for you to ask questions of me and for us to reflect on how you feel about beginning or returning to therapy.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I work psychodynamic and relationally. what this means is that I believe that our relationship acts as a model for how you interact with others in the outside world. We will use the patterns seen in your relationships and those that ply our in the room between you and I to look historically at your live, discern how these patterns came to be, and work to shift them to be more in alignment with your goals.
