What is your style/approach to therapy?

I have an eclectic approach that draws from various theoretical orientations. My primary approach to therapy generally is client-centered and non-directive, and I encourage my clients to be an active participant in the therapeutic process. I strive to maintain curiosity and provide a safe and non-judgmental container where clients can come to process their emotions and experiences. I work to build an open and trusting relationship with my clients. I also view the work of therapy through an attachment-based lens, and will utilize attachment-based interventions when appropriate. When indicated I utilize concepts and interventions from Solutions-Focused Brief Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.

What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

After the better part of a decade working with students in outdoor education programs all over the world, I found that one of the most impactful parts of my work lay in the connections I forged with students and peers alike, while working together through various challenges far away from the comforts of home. I found that I had a natural tendency towards sitting with and holding space for young people as they worked through some of the most challenging moments of our time together, and I wanted to learn more about how to better support people through their various highs and lows. I am eternally grateful for all of the time spent out in nature with so many incredible kids and teenagers and believe that we have so much to learn from each other. I look forward to many more valuable and lasting lessons from both kids, teens, and the outdoors in the future.

What would be important for someone to know about working with you?

I have a warm and compassionate style and my goal is for my clients to feel heard, known, understood, better equipped, and empowered through our work in the therapy space. I grew up on the East Coast and have spent the better part of the last decade on the West Coast, though have moved around and experienced life in many different cities, towns, and even countries. I have a passion for time spent in the outdoors and believe strongly that everyone has a place in nature. I earned my Master’s of Counseling Psychology in the Bay Area at The Wright Institute and have spent my clinical career working as a school-based therapist so far. I have many years of experience working with children and adolescents in various contexts, and enjoy the energy and perspectives that they bring to the world.
