What does a first session with you look like?
I can help you understand you and your loved ones better. My clients find this helps them overcome recurring problems in their relationships with partners, family, and friends. In our first sessions, we'll figure out what matters to you and what success means to you, in your own words. We'll set clear goals and create a plan. I'll check in with you regularly to make sure you're making progress.
If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?
"Maybe in Another Life" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The story opens with a choice: to go home after a night out with one person, or with another. From there, the book opens two timelines that follow the protagonist's life across the years as the monumental consequences of that small decision play out. Though her life looks drastically different in the two scenarios, the protagonist closes each timeline reminiscing about her past and thinking, "How lucky am I, to be this person that I am, to live this life that I live, and to be with this partner that I am." We spend a lot of time worrying about making the "right" choices, but, in the end, so much of our happiness depends on us choosing to be happy. We have control of very few things in this world, but we do have control over choosing to appreciate our lives in all their weird, messy, unpredictable, up-and-down glory. We can choose to be the heroes of our own stories and choose joy and gratitude, no matter what challenges we are dealt in this game of life.
