What does a first session with you look like?

The very first session consists of a full assessment so that I can get to know you and help identify what you would like to change. In the early stages of trauma work, you will gain a lot of knowledge about the traumatized brain and the neurobiology of trauma. After that, I typically work with you to learn grounding, relaxation, and other skills to help you regulate your emotions and to soothe a great deal of your trauma symptoms. We can work at your pace, of course. I work a lot with the body, helping you to reconnect with your physical self ina safe way. From there, you can choose from a number of avenues to take which I will discuss fully with you so you can decide what will work best for you, whether it be EMDR or parts work, for example.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I am adept at EMDR, Cognitive Therapy, the Structural Dissociation Model (parts work), and Psychodynamic Therapy among others. I work eclectically, pulling from different therapies to match what you need. I can also incorporate poetry, literature, and drama into trauma work if that appeals to you.
