What would be important for someone to know about working with you?

When working with me, we'll start by getting to know your story in-depth, and the roots of your concerns. We'll then work on tried-and-true ways to find relief, so that you are emboldened to keep growing, even when life is reeaaally lifing! If you're ready for change, reach out by phone or email to schedule a free 15-minute consultation call to see if I'm the right fit for you.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

The treatment styles I use are practical, interactive, and science-driven, with a focus on developing new ways to react to your specific challenges. I won't just sit, nod my head, and ask how you feel! My clinical career began in 2010 as music therapist, using creative & active music-making or music-receptive interventions to increase social & emotional learning, mood management, and communication skills. Since this time, I've completed additional training in the counseling field in Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, social anxiety, agoraphobia, and related anxiety-disorders; Habit Response Training (HRT) for body-focused repetitive actions like skin-picking or hair-pulling; Eye Movement Desensitization& Reprocessing (EMDR) for mind-body de-strengthening of negative beliefs of self & the world brought on my traumatic experiences; and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to treat sleep disorders. I believe we come to therapy to get well, and not to become dependent on someone else to regulate our emotions or ideas. I don't know about you, but when I've gone to therapy, I'd say the goal has been to find understanding, find new ways of living, and put that into practice - STAT! So, as your guide, we will create a plan unique to your needs based on real-time skills. Together, we'll work on tools and behaviors that can help you get unstuck, and on a path to living the life you want.

If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?

TV and movies, or even some of our past experiences with therapy, can lead us to think it's just a space to vent without much opportunity to find growth. Thoughts like "can't I just talk to a friend about what I'm going through?" or "what is talking going to do for me?" are common - but those are MYTHS! Therapy can look different for each person, but the therapy practices I use are focused on increasing your self-understanding, compassion, and courage, and using actual techniques you can take with you and practice regularly to get to a place of empowerment. We'll use understanding action to move you to the place you'd like to be!
