What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Growing up in an Asian American household, mental health was not a topic frequently discussed. Though unspoken, there was an expectation to strive for perfection and success. As I grew older, I witnessed firsthand the ways in which mental health challenges have impacted my communities and those I care about, which inspired me to challenge mental health stigma and dismantle barriers Asian Americans face to receiving help. Much of my training and research has focused on the intersection between culture and mental health and explored different avenues for connecting minorities with accessible mental health resources. I have also focused my time and energy toward starting conversations with the hope of helping others feel heard, accepted, and able to show up as their most authentic selves. This approach remains at the heart of my therapeutic style.
