Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
When I was in my first year of teaching fresh from college, I had a student that was struggling mentally, socially, and academically. I was able to connect with this child and provide her with resources and help from other school related staff that she didn’t even know how to access. I was able to make a positive difference in this child’s life from the beginning of the year to the end of the school year because I was able to reach her, gain her trust, and get other school personnel like the school counselor to advocate and support this child as well. This was the starting point for me in realizing that counseling was an added path, connected to teaching, that I wanted to be able to be a part of. It is a natural instinct for me to help others see that positive change is possible and sometimes the things that seem out of reach are within grasp with the right support, resources, and tools.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Clients can expect to feel heard, respected, and validated. They will be able to take away different perspectives and outlooks on certain things that they haven’t realized were possibilities. I am very good at looking at things in different ways and exploring things/options that aren’t generally thought of when clients are in distress. Clients typically are able to engage in discussions where they are reasoning and rationalizing through issues. The environment I provide helps clients feel safe, calm, and secure where they are able to open up and be vulnerable in session. We are able to break down issues and explore root causes and ways to cope or move forward toward healing.
