What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by both personal experiences and a long-standing desire to support people through life’s most challenging moments. I have always been drawn to understanding the deeper “why” behind our struggles, and I believe that even in pain, there can be an opening for growth and transformation.
What inspired me to choose this profession was seeing the impact that empathy, presence, and authentic connection can have. I wanted to create a space where people feel safe to share their stories without judgment, and where healing is not about “fixing” but about discovering new meaning and possibility.
For me, becoming a therapist is about walking alongside others as they navigate change, loss, or uncertainty, and helping them uncover the strength, resilience, and hope that already live within them.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
My personality shapes my approach to therapy in a way that is warm and inviting, while also being straightforward when needed. I walk a fine line between offering a safe, compassionate space where you feel deeply heard and gently challenging the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
Clients often tell me that they appreciate the authenticity and kindness I bring into the room, while also being clear and direct when it matters most. I believe that healing occurs when there is both comfort and growth, and my style reflects this balance.
How does collaboration with other providers play into your work?
I value working collaboratively with other providers because it allows me to best support each client’s unique needs. Therapy is most effective when care feels connected and consistent, so I welcome communication with psychiatrists, medical doctors, or other specialists involved in a client’s treatment. My goal is to ensure you feel supported from all angles, with a team that works together on your behalf.

Work HistoryOver the past 17 years, I have had the privilege of working with people through many different life challenges, including addiction, trauma, grief, depression, suicidal thoughts, and more. Early in my career, I served as Executive Director of a Malibu residential treatment center, where I supported clients with substance use and co-occurring mental health issues. That work taught me how to hold space for complexity and how important it is to work with each person’s whole story rather than focusing only on symptoms.
At Being Alive Los Angeles, I worked closely with the HIV positive and LGBTQIA+ communities, offering both crisis support and longer-term therapy. I worked with individuals navigating stigma, identity, loss, and what it takes to feel safe enough to heal.
In my current role as Director of Business Development at Alyne Wellness, an outpatient mental health and brain wellness clinic, I help ensure that clients are connected with the right services and build treatment teams that tailor care to each person’s needs. In private practice at Kristin Robert Psychotherapy, I see a wide range of diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, substance use, suicidal ideation, and trauma. I enjoy creating a compassionate, nonjudgmental space for people to explore what lies beneath the surface, learn coping skills, and grow toward meaning, agency, and self-understanding.
My therapeutic style combines practical tools, such as coping skills you can use in daily life, with a deeper exploration of patterns, emotions, beliefs, and trauma. My work is always rooted in empathy, curiosity, and respect. I believe healing is not about rushing but about gradually finding more safety, inner strength, and possibility in who you already are.
