Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path to becoming a therapist occurred a long time ago. When I graduated from college, I spent a number of years working case management with adults and children with serious mental health issues. While I was working in case management, I saw how broken the system was. The people that had the most complex problems didn't get the help that they needed because they didn't have the money or the right insurance. I saw people with mental illnesses get mistreated from the system. I decided to become a therapist and to own my own practice to provide the best care to everyone regardless of income.
I am also someone with a lot of life experience. I believe that people can only learn so much from a text book. I believe that life experience is something makes me authentic in addition to being educated in the issues that my patients face.
I have also seen people especially those from marginalized groups get mistreated. This includes minorities, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA people. I think that it is important for people to be their unique and authentic self. I do not believe in "fixing" people. I believe in helping others to accept their true authentic self instead of wearing a mask in order to be accepted by their peers and society.
