Get To Know Me
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
A relative reflected to me once- "Theatre saved your life." And I wholeheartedly agree.
From childhood onward, theatre, dance and visual arts have been a very effective vehicle to promote emotional exploration, self-acceptance, self-compassion, agency, perspective, empowerment, insight and so much more! I saw it be so effective for me and in my practice as an Expressive Arts/Drama Therapist I have been overjoyed to see this work for others as well.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
My preference is eclectic. I am a trained person-centered Drama Therapist. However, I pull from various approaches (including, CBT, DBT, Supportive Therapy, Strength Based, Liberation Psychology, and others) to craft a treatment process where my client feels safe and cared for. I invest in the therapy alliance so when the work becomes uncomfortable ( because growth and discomfort go hand in hand) the client can feel comfortable in the rapport we have built.
How does collaboration with other providers play into your work?
I love to collaborate! Drama Therapy started as a group, rather than individual approach. My training was very community-based and I have been fortunate to collaborate with other esteemed colleagues in forming groups for homeless women struggling with codependency, people who have experienced spiritual abuse, anxiety and emotional regulation groups for children and various support groups for specific populations. In addition, I also an a Playback Theatre Artists which is an ensemble based form of therapeutic theatre.

Education
California Institute of integral Studies, Master of Arts, Counseling Psychology and Drama Therapy, 2018 — Pursuing my Master's allowed me to provide Expressive Arts Therapy to BIPOC and other marginalized populations. Many were seeking support during life transitions, immigration and acculturation struggles, individuating as teenagers, and struggling with emotional regulation and institutional inequalities in school and society. As a culturally responsive, creative arts therapist, I provided individual counseling to youth and adults since 2017 that was customized to the client's strengths, needs and inter-sectional backgrounds. As a clinician, I have served in traineeships with a variety of mental health facilities from community clinics and residential treatment centers to small faith-based, social justice nonprofits based in downtown San Francisco.
Ohio Wesleyan University, Bachelor of Arts, Theatre Performance with Concentration in Arts Management ( Minor 1: Dance, Minor 2: Women and Gender Studies), 2011 — This degree allowed me to gain knowledge and experience in justice centered theatre, the connection between theatre and psychology, the various methods and intellectual traditions, and internal and interpersonal exploration. I did not know it at the time but this degree provided the foundation for pursuing Drama Therapy.
