What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I was very active in sports growing up, and it felt very natural to pursue an education in Kinesiology. My post-bachelor work included personal training, physical therapy and group fitness. As I worked with people on their physical health, I realized just how important mental health is as well. The physical and emotional experiences we have are so tightly intertwined, it seems to me that one part cannot be healthy if our other parts are suffering. This led me to pursue a Master of Social Work with the intention of going into clinical work. I wanted to make connections with people, the same way I did as a personal trainer and coach, but I wanted to go deeper with people to enable healing of the soul and not just the body. I believe in holistic health, so while I work with clients to address their emotional and mental concerns, I also encourage clients to pay attention to their physical well-being. As much as we try to compartmentalize parts of our lives and existence, the reality is, our human experience is not so simple and one part of us affects everything else. I strive to help individuals, couples and families achieve holistic healing. I love connecting with my clients so that they feel both heard and validated, as well as challenged to progress. I want to provide a safe space for my clients to feel vulnerable and to gain the strength and stamina needed to face challenges with confidence.
