Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My life experience instilled a strong desire to help others make sense of their lives. By witnessing the challenges faced by women (and men) who have experienced abuse or struggle with control, or those who feel isolated by depression and anxiety, I want to be a light in the darkness. I want to help them see themselves for who they are and regain the inner strength they possess to overcome their challenges.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
The key component of the therapeutic relationship is faith and trust; faith in the possibility of change and trust in the person you've chosen to help you. Building trust and fostering hope is an essential part of my job. You are an essential part of my job! I want my clients to feel heard and understood, and to know you're accepted just the way you are. My job isn't to fix you, it's to know who you are and what you need.
If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?
Boundaries. By Henry Cloud and John Townsend. It opened my eyes to the world of personal boundaries. It helped me to see how something so fundamental could cause so much distress when not enforced. It helped me see there is freedom in recognizing our boundaries, and I want to share that knowledge and space with others.
