Work HistoryDr. Wakayama is a Stanford- and UCSF-trained, licensed clinical psychologist with nearly a decade of experience supporting high-achieving adults with stress, eating and weight concerns, sleep, and relationships. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2019 from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium, completing her Doctoral Internship at the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System with a focus on Behavioral Medicine, and her Postdoctoral Residency at the San Francisco VA Healthcare System in Integrated Care Psychology: Primary Care. For over five years, Dr. Wakayama was a staff psychologist at the San Francisco VA, providing behavioral health support, consultation, and training in primary care and behavioral medicine settings. She helped Veterans manage chronic health conditions, cope with stress and burnout, improve sleep, and build healthy habits around weight and body image, including supporting those preparing for bariatric surgery and organ transplants. She also served as Program Lead for the SFVA’s Multidisciplinary Eating Disorder Team and as attending psychologist in the Bariatric Consultation Clinic and MOVE! (Managing Overweight and Obesity in Veterans Everywhere) Program. During this time, she taught and supervised interdisciplinary trainees as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF. Dr. Wakayama now maintains a full-time private practice, bringing this experience to help adults navigate mental health, behavior change, and overall wellness.
