What does a first session with you look like?
During the first session we talk about what brings you to therapy. Also, I want to get to know you. Because of this I will ask more questions than normal. We will also talk about what your goals are for therapy. I want you to feel heard and understood.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
The primary treatment methods I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy. Both methods have extensive studies showing that they are effective. EMDR is great for working with traumatic memories so that they are more manageable.
I will also use other methods such as mindfulness if I think it would be beneficial.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Years ago I was seeing a therapist to help me with a life situation. It was very beneficial and helped me improve my life. After that I felt called to go into counseling and help others feel hope about improving their lives.
