Work HistoryMy journey to the mental health field took me a little by surprise. For over 20 years I made my way through the corporate world, from guiding executives in adapting to new communication technologies to double-dutching with creative and technical teams to make interesting stuff happen. It was fun. But it was at times very, very stressful (my undergraduate degree in English Literature reminds me there are no degrees of stressful, but if you’ve been stressed out at work you will be able to forgive me this little grammar faux pas). I saw firsthand the challenges and pressures that can come with professional life. Since I had always been able to lend a listening ear to my stressed-out colleagues, I decided that maybe a career shift to therapy made real sense. So shift I did, and now, through my private practice, I’ve been able to help hundreds of clients not just with work stress, but with a myriad of other emotional issues and challenges. I’m a big believer in doing what you do really well, so that’s why my primary clinical focus is limited to anxiety, work stress, caregiver stress and sleep issues. If you’re finding anxiety around every corner, I can help you learn a healthier way to manage your fears. If you’re struggling with caring for aging parents or a spouse with chronic medical issues (or maybe both), I can help you find coping skills to care for those you love while also caring for yourself. If you can’t remember the last time you had a good night’s sleep, I can help you discover ways to feel better about your sleep. My approach is collaborative and tailored to your unique story, making use of science-backed methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I find they offer great flexibility in examining what got you here while maintaining a hopeful focus on the future. My certification in CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I) gives me a specialized skill set to tackle sleep issues, helping you challenge some myths you may have about sleep and develop better habits. Most of all, I’m here to offer you empathy so you can feel heard, and actionable strategies to get you moving. My goal is to help you find practical solutions that resonate with your life and get you moving towards what matters most to you!
