What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
The work I do with my clients is highly structured and personalized. I am what is termed a "directive" therapist so you will not have to worry about lulls in the conversation or the burden of bringing material to the session. I have developed an extensive intake interview that will quickly bring me up to date on your life in the first session so our work can begin immediately. I set goals with my clients and I write out detailed treatment plans so we are always working concretely to move your life forward. My focus is always on improving your experience of life in the here and now; however, I will move into the past whenever necessary to understand "how we got here" when it will help illuminate a stuck point or expose a trauma point. I have strong skills in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which I will teach you and which will then be yours for life. The healing that comes from therapy is perhaps my greatest strength and that has developed out of my own life experience combined with the work I have done over the past 15 years working with hundreds of clients across the life span and from a wide diversity of backgrounds and orientations. Education
Stony Brook School of Social Welfare, Master of Social Work, General, 2009
Stony Brook's program features a strong emphasis on social justice. Before concentrating in clinical work I enjoyed a career in public policy working in both non-profit and government positions in NYC and on Long Island.
City University of New York Queens College, Bachelor of Arts, English, 1988
Work History
I have been practicing as a social worker since 2009. Social work allows for a wide range of practice and I have enjoyed working in many areas of society through this profession. I have trained in clinical practice (therapy) throughout my career and have also held positions in government and non-profits in New York City and Long Island. Last year I made the decision to move exclusively into clinical practice and I started my own practice. During the pandemic I joined a private practice in NYC and like all therapist worked remotely. I enjoyed the experience of remote work so much I have continued on as an exclusively remote therapist. The clients who prefer remote therapy generally are a good fit for me as I do well working with people who require the flexibility and ease of remote therapy due to hectic schedule with career, families or personal lives.
