Under Clinical Supervision
Ms. Magdangela Kosmetatos, Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit, P119602 is practicing under the supervision of Shurla Perry (New York, LMHC, 008724) at The Soho Center.
Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I have always considered myself to be an empathetic and understanding person which is often reflected in my friendships and various interpersonal relationships. I approach every interaction with kindness, care, and when appropriate, a sense of humor. These personality traits transition well into my approach to therapy allowing for the development of a non-judgmental, light, and safe space where anything a client wants to share is held, explored, and processed together.
What does a first session with you look like?
A first session with me looks like two people getting to know one another in an effort to build the foundations of a respectful and trusting therapeutic relationship. The client is allowed to freely discuss what brings them into therapy and share the goals they would like to see accomplished for themselves through therapy and individual work. I, as the therapist, provide empathy, understanding, and share how my own therapeutic approaches are aligned and can be collaboratively used to work towards seeing progress in all goals.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
The key component of a therapeutic relationship is the ability to build trust in one another. This means being able to openly and honestly share things with one another which can be difficult to receive and explore, but trusting that it will be held on a safe space to be processed and accepted together. Without trust in a therapeutic relationship, it is my belief that progress will be difficult to make and measure but through collaboration and rapport building, it can be forged to create an empowering dynamic.
