Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I have always had an interest in mental health from an early age. I remember being in High School talking with my closest friends about the patterns that tend to drive people and hold people back, both conscious and unconscious. I typically found myself as the “therapist” of the group and being the one that people felt comfortable and safe to disclose things to that they felt weary about discussing with others. Becoming a therapist felt like an obvious choice to me as I entered college. I worked in a group home and behavioral unit in a senior living home throughout college and loved meeting with the residents, hearing their stories, and being a compassionate ear to whatever they wanted to share. Following college, I worked in agencies with individuals struggling with severe mental illness. I provided individual and group counseling and loved being able to reach more people. I supervised the program and had a passion for providing guidance to the other therapists to best help our clients. I later worked as a director of a substance abuse program and assistant director of a group private practice. However, my main passion was always with working directly with individuals, couples, and families providing therapy. Seeing my clients’ success and being with them in their times of pain has been deeply rewarding for me.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I take a client-centered approach. My first goal is to truly get to know and understand the factors that brought you into therapy. I think without taking the time to listen, some of the most important factors of someone’s story can be missed. I aim to create a safe and supportive environment while also keeping it fun to help you feel more relaxed and at ease. My connection with you is my top priority for us to get into the “work” of therapy.
