What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path to becoming a therapist has been a long journey. The spark was put in me by losing a very close childhood friend to suicide, but I put the career path on the back burner because I didn't think that I'd be able to be successful in grad school due to my horrific math skills. Fast forward and I eventually got a job as a special education teacher, but I was fired due to having cerebral palsy. It was at that point I wanted to shift gears and help people that have been through similar experiences through going into private practice. Ultimately, I chose this profession because I want to help individuals that may be navigating a similar journey and need the guidance to reach the life that they want to live.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I'm very much patient centered. For the most part, I put you in the driver's seat so that you get out of therapy exactly what you want each session. There may be times that I'll lead us in a different direction if I suspect a new diagnosis and need to clarify my suspicions or if you say something that requires immediate intervention.
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
Once we've completed our intake session, I will outline my findings and what I feel needs to be addressed. However, I want goal setting to be a collaborative process that way you will have the motivation to work towards your goals. If there is something that I've suggested that doesn't resonate with you, tell me and we can workshop it until it's fitting for your life and your circumstances.
