What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
My work is person, thoughtful, and honest. I have experienced being in crisis and in need of support myself as a kid and as an adult, and know what it is like to be in such a vulnerable space. I am both validating and encouraging towards change and being more comfortable with ourselves, scary parts and all.

Education
Palo Alto University, Master of Arts, Clinical Counseling, 2021 — I graduated with a magna cum laude from Palo Alto University with a Master of Clinical Counseling and had an emphasis in human development, family therapy, and ethical research.
Work HistoryTherapy is not about fixing you—it’s about walking with you as you reclaim your voice, your confidence, and your peace.
I’m Mercedes Cuevas, a licensed mental health counselor and the founder of Lemon Tree Counseling and Therapy. I specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals, families navigating behavioral challenges, and clients healing from trauma, self-harm, or suicidality. My practice is rooted in the belief that healing happens in a space that is respectful, consistent, and safe—a space where you can show up authentically and be met with compassion, not judgment.
I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support emotional regulation and safety, and integrate trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy to help clients process painful experiences and rewrite their stories. I also teach adaptive living skills to individuals with ADHD, helping them build systems that align with their strengths and needs.
In family therapy, I work collaboratively to reduce conflict, improve communication, and support behavioral change in children and teens using an Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Whether you're a parent feeling overwhelmed or a young adult trying to break free from cycles of crisis, I’m here to help you move toward stability, confidence, and lasting change.
I offer in-person sessions in South Seattle and virtual therapy across Washington
