Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Honestly, two Vietnam veterans. I was volunteering at Vets 4 Veterans in the Antelope Valley in California, and I got to know both of them pretty well. The founder had this passion for helping veterans that just never ran out. Every conversation, every phone call, every problem that walked through the door, he was there. Then there was a retired plumber who had gone back to graduate school after retirement and become a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, so he could work with veterans. A plumber. He went back to school in his sixties because he wasn't done yet.
Something clicked for me watching those two. I had spent my whole life in roles where I was showing up for people at hard moments — combat, emergency medicine, veterinary work — but I hadn't thought of myself as someone who could be a therapist. Watching that LMFT made me realize it wasn't too late, and watching the founder reminded me why I'd want to. So I went back to school. That's the whole story, really.

Education
University of Massachusetts Global, Master of Social Work, Clinical Counseling, 2024 — Worked in community mental health, providing therapy to a wide range of women, men, and children. I specialize in domestic violence and high-stress positions.
Work HistoryMy path to becoming a therapist wasn't a straight line, and I think that's part of why I'm good at this work. I served in combat during the Gulf War, which is where I first learned what it looks like when people have to keep moving through things they haven't had time to feel yet. After the military, I worked in emergency and trauma medicine, sitting with people on some of the worst days of their lives, and then I spent twelve years in veterinary medicine, eventually as a hospital director. That last chapter surprised me — I went in thinking it was about animals, and I came out understanding compassion fatigue, moral injury, and burnout in a way that only comes from watching it happen to people you care about, including yourself.
When I went back to school for my Master of Social Work, I wasn't starting from scratch. I was finally putting language to things I had already lived. My clinical training has focused on anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and the kinds of life transitions that leave people questioning who they are. I've worked with veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, LGBTQIA+ folks, and people who are just tired of carrying more than anyone around them realizes. What I bring to the room is calm, practical, and honest — I'm not going to hand you a worksheet and call it healing. I want to understand what you're actually up against and work with you toward something that holds up in real life.
