Get To Know Me
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
Like many therapists, my own lived experiences impact who I am as a therapist and the types of clients who feel most connected with me in therapy. I am able to understand concerns such as religious harm, body image concerns, and later-identified neurodivergence from both a personal and clinical lens because I have lived experience with all of them. The therapy space is not about me, and sessions remain focused on what clients want to work on. However, I am able to understand many of their struggles on a level that goes beyond a strictly clinical understanding based on my own lived experiences.

Education
University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, 2016 — This degree program included 60 credit hours of classroom education and interactive practicum experiences, as well as 600 hours of hands-on internship experience providing counseling services. UNC-Greensboro's Counseling Program was #2 in the US during my time there, and continually ranks highly for quality and preparation of graduates.
Wake Forest University, Bachelor of Arts, Religious Studies / Psychology, 2002
Work HistoryI have been in private practice since 2019, focusing my work on those who have repeatedly been told they are "too much." This includes working with survivors of religious harm, individuals who are navigating body image concerns, and many later-identified neurodivergent individuals. Much of my clinical work since 2022 has focused on helping people unpack the messages they have believed about themselves and figure out how they can show up in their own lives embracing the fullness of who they are. Prior to this, my work experience in counseling includes college counseling centers, community mental health agencies, and a group practice setting.
Becoming a licensed counselor was a second career for me. Previously, I worked in vocational ministry for almost a decade, where I experienced spiritual abuse and religious trauma. My own healing journey combined with my lifelong interests in understanding and supporting people to lead me to my role as a mental health counselor today.
