Get To Know Me
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
To me, the process of therapy is always collaborative. Your job in the process is to be open and honest about your present reality - what's going on in your life, how you feel about it, etc - and to keep checking in with yourself about what you want (your goals). It's my job to share resources, insight, information, and techniques with you to help you achieve your goals. Much of therapy is feedback, and in a healthy dynamic, that should go both ways! I give you feedback about the patterns I see, and you give me feedback about how the solutions are working (or not working!) for you so that we can keep improving them.
In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?
I'd say they're nearly one and the same. One of my mantras for both work and life in general is "work smart, not hard" - I believe the path to sustainable, maintainable change is focusing on baby steps. I fundamentally believe that everyone is acceptable, loveable, and deserving of respect as they are, so when we make changes, we're focused on changing behaviors, not the person themselves!

Professional Background

Education
Loyola University New Orleans, Master of Science in Counseling, 2015 — CACREP accredited program. I did my internship in a residential and intensive outpatient rehab facility, and chose electives in substance abuse treatment. While in the program, I also co-developed a pilot program for eating disorder treatment for women, which was given the first place award for student presentations at the Louisiana Counseling Association conference in 2013.
Trinity University, Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, 2012 — I spent 2.5 years in an undergraduate internship at an intensive outpatient eating disorder treatment facility during this time, where I participated in research as well as observing and facilitating group work. This is where I first developed an interest in working with eating disorders and substance abuse.
