What do you think is the biggest barrier today for people seeking care?

One of the biggest barriers that I hear from patients is that they had negative experiences when in therapy in the past. These experiences range from their therapist behaving in an unprofessional manner or not monitoring goals during therapy so that the therapy sessions feel aimless, never-ending, and unproductive for healing. Given how expensive therapy is, how vital mental health is to our overall well-being, and the overwhelming rise in anxiety and depression in children and adults since the pandemic, I believe it is important that mental health clinicians provide science-based interventions. There are decades worth of research studies on which interventions are the most effective. I am passionate about using those because I have been seeing them work in my practice with patients for almost a decade.
