Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I’ve known I wanted a career in psychology since I was a teenager. It all started when I found a psychology textbook in and realized there was a whole field dedicated to understanding people and behavior I feel very fortunate that I knew my direction so early on, as it allowed me to dedicate my entire education to this work.
When it came time to choose my path, I intentionally focused on the scientific side of the field. I was drawn to the study of how our brains and our actions are connected. I chose this specific route (psychology as compared to other routes to provide therapy) because I wanted to go beyond just 'talking'—I wanted a deep understanding of the biology and patterns behind our behavior. This helps me give my clients a clearer picture of why they might feel the way they do and how we can work together to create real change.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
In a world that often feels rushed, I take a more measured, thoughtful approach to therapy. I’m naturally a bit reserved and 'slow-to-warm,' which means I spend our early sessions being a steady, observant presence for you. As we get to know each other, that quietness gives way to a lot of heart and a good sense of humor.
I’m not a 'clinical robot'—I’m a real person who is highly empathetic and, yes, even a little socially awkward at times. My clients tell me my face is an open book, which helps them feel seen and heard without me having to say a word. Above all, I am deeply committed to my work. I value professional integrity and reliability. I take my role as your 'cheerleader' seriously. I’m here to protect the space we build together and be a fierce advocate for your well-being.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
Methods/approaches:
- DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy): Appropriate for depression, anxiety, trauma, difficulty regulating emotions, substance use, self-harm, etc. It’s a skills-based approach that helps you find balance. We focus on four key areas: staying present (mindfulness), handling a crisis (distress tolerance), understanding and managing emotions (emotion regulation), and communicating effectively with others (interpersonal effectiveness).
- Support for Trauma (PE): For those working through PTSD, I use a step-by-step method called Prolonged Exposure. It’s a structured way to safely face the memories you’ve been avoiding so you can regain control of your life.
- ADHD Strategies (CBT): We’ll use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to tackle the 'executive function' side of life—creating systems for planning and organization that help you feel less scattered and more in control.
Tools:
- Collaborative Telehealth: During our video sessions, we can use an interactive whiteboard and shared worksheets to make our work more visual and clear.
- Practical "Homework": Change happens in the hours between our sessions. I’ll provide you with activities, worksheets, or "real-life" tasks to help you practice what you’ve learned.
- Mindfulness Library: In session, we may do mindfulness practices. I will give you access to audio versions, websites, or scripts for you to keep and practice on your own.
- The Progress App: We’ll use a secure website/app to track how you’re doing. It’s a great way for us to stay on top of your goals and make sure the therapy is working for you.
- Ongoing Learning: I can recommend helpful books and websites to my clients to keep the momentum going between our appointments.

Work HistoryI began my career in 2012 working in intensive programs designed for people facing significant emotional challenges, trauma, and substance use. This is where I fell in love with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I saw firsthand how learning specific skills—like how to handle a crisis or manage a 'big' emotion—could truly help someone build a life they felt was worth living.
Following my time in these programs, I spent time working in community mental health across Wilmington and the surrounding rural areas. This experience taught me how to be resourceful and creative, especially when tools or time were limited.
Since 2014, I have been in private practice, which allows me to work more closely and personally with my clients. While I still specialize in the structure of DBT, I have expanded my skill-set and approaches to meet each person exactly where they are. I use methods that are backed by research but delivered with a human touch.
