Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I chose this profession because I wanted to help people. I recognize we all live different experiences throughout our lifetimes, and sometimes people need support navigating the difficult times, I wanted to be the person to offer that support in a non-judgmental, empathetic, and safe environment.
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
I am blessed to have been on this earth a while. I, like many of the clients I see, have experienced personal trauma's throughout my lifetime. I live with (managed) chronic PTSD. My experience navigating this disorder allows me to have special insight, and skills, that help to manage the many symptoms of this illness. I pass along these experiences to my clients in hope that they find skills, and knowledge, that assists in their healing process and symptom management.
I am also a spouse and parent, which provide me experience assisting people struggling in relationships, parenting, and navigating schools when advocating for children with learning disabilities. Three of my children are diagnosed with ADHD and one is on the spectrum.
Having worked in a long-term care facility I also have experience working with seniors, their families, and assisting with life transitions and the emotions, and struggles felt by all members in the family.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My therapy style is person-centered. Meeting the client where they are, whether its their first time committing to therapy, or they've been in treatment for several years and searching for a new, or different type of provider. I have a plethora of evidenced based interventions I am trained and skilled at, and I offer education and practice with clients to find the one that works best for them. I never have a set agenda as I feel the client knows what they like, or need, and what doesn't, or hasn't, worked in the past. I provide support and encouragement, but also encourage accountability so that the client ultimately reaches their therapeutic goals.
