Are there any recurring themes or issues you’ve noticed as you treat people in your area of specialization, and how has this insight guided your approach?
I notice in my work with teen girls of color that they commonly speak about their relationships with their mothers. Many of them say that they have a difficult time speaking openly about their mental health in fear that their mothers will misunderstand or dismiss them. Sometimes, mother do just that which is disheartening. I remind teens that it is not their fault if their mothers do not know how to respond. The idea of taking care of your mental health is unfamiliar to many families of color and it takes time for people to understand the process.

Work HistoryMost of my teen clients feel that anxiety has consumed their whole lives. They also identify as perfectionistic, depressed, and lonely. They are very creative, an overachiever or an over-procrastinator, and an emotional sponge. They may have a difficult time focusing in school and prioritize their relationships. Since they feel so deeply, they tend to feel ashamed of their emotions and work towards being someone different.
I have experience working with black teen girls and other girls of color who live with anxiety and perfectionism. I practice with a person-centered, playful and black feminist thought approach to guide my clients. Through art-making, mindfulness and tarot cards, I will help you to to live with less anxiety and have more fun.
