What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
A key component of the therapeutic relationship is authenticity and a desire to be here. With incarcerated individuals, they don’t all choose to be in therapy. Those who choose to do the work do well. This is also true for minors. Changes in behavior will not occur if the child/adolescent doesn’t believe change is needed.
