What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach to therapy is rooted in Cognitive Processing Therapy, tailored to meet each client's unique needs. I believe in creating a non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts and emotions. By working collaboratively, I assist my clients in identifying patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and cultivate healthier ways of thinking and behaving. I am committed to helping individuals build meaningful lives that align with their values and goals.
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
It is important we first discuss the changes you would like to see so we can then, together, process past experiences and identify your strengths to build upon your future. We will explore new ways of overcoming issues with the use of a variety of strategies to bring about the life changes you wish to see. Opening up to a stranger can be frightening for anyone. My goal is to make you feel completely comfortable while you are in the comfort of your own home while assisting you in expressing your feelings, discovering your inner strengths, validating your feelings, and challenging your negative thoughts.

Professional Background

Training/CertificationsNationally Certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy
Education
The University of Alabama, Master of Social Work
Work HistoryI currently work with the Department of Veteran's Affairs, where I provide Cognitive Processing Therapy to veterans who are diagnosed with PTSD from any type of trauma, military related or not. In this position, I am also able to offer individual and couple's supportive counseling. Prior to my VA career, I worked as one of the social work supervisors at my local maximum security facility for the criminally insane and a crisis intervention clinician for our local emergency department. I began my part-time private practice journey while working as a supervisor due to my love for connecting with others and engaging in psychotherapy, both of which I was missing while in that role.
