Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path to becoming a therapist started with a deep desire to help people navigate difficult life circumstances. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BSW) from Wright State University in 2019, and soon after, began working with Montgomery County Children Services. That role opened my eyes to the complex challenges families face—especially in crisis—and it deepened my commitment to trauma-informed, compassionate care.
As I gained experience in child welfare, I realized how critical behavioral health and substance use services are in breaking cycles of trauma. This led me to pursue licensure as both a Social Worker (LSW) and a Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC III). My work at Her Story, Inc. allowed me to take on leadership roles in recovery services, where I oversaw residential programs and ensured evidence-based treatment.
What inspired me most was seeing firsthand how even the smallest interventions—offering support, stability, or hope—could make a lasting difference. My passion lies in empowering individuals to reclaim their lives, and being a therapist gives me the privilege to walk beside them in that journey.
What does a first session with you look like?
In a first session with me, the focus is on building trust and establishing a safe, supportive environment. I start by introducing myself and explaining what to expect in therapy—my approach, confidentiality, and your rights as a client. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions and setting boundaries from the very beginning.
We’ll spend time talking about what brings you to therapy, what you hope to get out of it, and any past experiences—positive or negative—you’ve had with mental health support. I’ll ask about your personal history, current stressors, and strengths, but I go at your pace. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready for.
Most importantly, I aim to create a space where you feel heard without judgment. The first session is really about connection and understanding. From there, we can start working together to identify goals and tailor a plan that fits your unique needs and values.
