Get To Know Me
If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?
Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning" and Abraham Maslow's "Further Reaches of Human Nature" helped me to capture the main practical perspectives that mirror my life philosophy, and seemed to best encourage congruence between my inner authentic thoughts and my practical and purpose-driven approach to living, with how I might help someone awaken their own life satisfaction and sense of purpose in the world during times of change or reflection where they might be seeking therapy with an existential-humanistic person such as myself.
Is there any research-based work you’ve done that you found particularly exciting, and how has that informed your practice today?
I have three rather obscure areas for research that I have pursued in preparation for my doctorate, that demonstrate that I really do seek to the depths of what is out there and experts on your burning concerns to consult with in order to bring the very best of the field to help you. I am mainly interested in sexual dysfunction, life transitions, and psychosis. Please ask for those details as not all of it is publicly releasable yet.
How has your particular field of specialization evolved in recent years and how has that impacted your work?
I believe in the interpersonal connection that is unique to humans and that cannot be replicated by an AI robot over text messages on the internet. Anyone can "Google" or use AI to give them coping skills to get through a tough time, but having a warm and empathic assessment and corrective experience in session with someone with a high level of government security clearance offers an opportunity for you to feel safe to share whatever is on your mind, discreetly, and without electronic documentation unless absolutely necessary in a minimal way if required. I save and protect my paper process notes and have HIPAA-compliant email and phone communications platforms that are not owned by one of those corporate telehealth platforms (which probably steal information to train future AI robots), but a separate email provider and separate phone provider, for your peace-of-mind and ultimate discretion. I also travel for sessions and have an office that I can use as needed.
