What is your style/approach to therapy?
My general style/approach to therapy is eclectic and incredibly individual. I tend more toward trauma and psychodynamic modalities, drawing from modalities such as ACT, DBT, CBT, somatic modalities, and more. I believe therapy should look different for every person, so while that's my general approach, we'll work together to find what works for you. Being neurodivergent and neurodivergent-affirming, as well as queer and queer-affirming, I understand quite well that the coping tools we encounter in books are not always appropriate. Because of this, I work flexibly and collaboratively to be creative in finding evidence-based approaches that are individualized.
What do you think is the biggest barrier today for people seeking care?
By far, finances. Video therapy has become widespread and normalized, but cost remains a significant barrier. Healthcare in America is generally inaccessible due to cost and lack of appropriate, affordable insurance. The populations of clients who tend to see me specifically are frequently especially affected by cost. While I do not accept insurance at this time, I do provide super-bills that you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefits. Additionally, I allow clients to choose how much they pay, based on a sliding scale provided on my website as well as during intake paperwork.
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
Clients tell me their goals! Sometimes, clients don't always know how to define their goals at first--and that's okay. We'll spend time during our first session and on an ongoing basis defining, refining, and working toward goals. Goals can and do change over time. It's common to come to therapy with one specific goal in mind, and realize there are more goals, or different goals from first imagined.
