Brooklyn College, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, 2014 — Here's a snapshot of what my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling encompasses: Advanced Therapeutic Techniques: Building on my foundational knowledge in psychology, this degree delved deeper into advanced therapeutic modalities and interventions. This advanced training ensures that I employ the most effective, evidence-based techniques tailored to individual needs. Clinical Experience: Integral to the program was hands-on clinical experience, working directly with individuals, couples, and groups, under expert supervision. This real-world application reinforced academic knowledge, honing my counseling skills. Assessment and Diagnosis: A key component was learning to conduct thorough mental health assessments and establish accurate diagnoses, vital in developing individualized treatment plans. Crisis Intervention: I received specialized training in recognizing and intervening in crisis situations, ensuring that clients in distress receive immediate and appropriate care. Counseling Ethics: The program underscored the importance of adhering to the highest ethical standards in the counseling profession, safeguarding clients' rights, and maintaining confidentiality. Cultural Competency: The degree emphasized the importance of understanding and navigating cultural, social, and personal differences, allowing me to provide therapy that's both sensitive and inclusive. Personal Growth and Self-awareness: The program also recognized the value of therapists' self-awareness and personal growth, ensuring that I remain introspective and continuously evolve in my professional journey. Continued Learning and Supervision: Post-degree, there's an emphasis on seeking regular supervision and participating in continuous education, ensuring that my approach remains fresh, updated, and in line with the latest research. This Master's program has equipped me with a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, enabling me to support and guide my clients effectively through their personal journeys of healing and growth.
Marist College, Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, 2012 — Here's a brief overview of my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology: Foundational Understanding: This degree provided a comprehensive foundation in understanding human behavior, thoughts, and emotions. It delves deep into why we think, feel, and act the way we do, laying the groundwork for effective therapeutic techniques. Research and Critical Thinking: My coursework emphasized research methods and critical analysis, ensuring that the therapeutic strategies I employ are rooted in scientific evidence and are continually assessed for effectiveness. Developmental Psychology: A key component of my studies involved understanding human development across the lifespan. This is crucial when working with diverse age groups, from adolescents to adults, as it helps in identifying and addressing age-specific challenges. Biological Bases of Behavior: This aspect of the degree ensures a holistic approach to therapy, understanding the intricate interplay between the mind and the body, including the impacts of hormones, neurotransmitters, and the overall brain structure on behavior and emotions. Cultural Awareness: Modern psychology curricula prioritize cultural sensitivity and diversity. This has equipped me to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, understanding and respecting the unique challenges and perspectives they bring to the therapy room. Ethics: Ethical considerations are at the heart of psychology. My training emphasized the importance of confidentiality, informed consent, and the overall well-being of the client, ensuring a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. In essence, this degree has not only enriched my understanding of the human psyche but has also honed my skills as a compassionate listener and an effective counselor. It serves as the foundation upon which my further training and experiences in mental health have been built.
Work HistoryWhen I reflect on my journey in mental health, I see a rich tapestry of experiences, each weaving knowledge and wisdom into my approach as a counselor. Starting in 2014, I immersed myself in the challenging yet rewarding world of substance abuse counseling at McLeod Center. Over two years, I collaborated with countless individuals battling addiction. This phase shaped my understanding of the deep interplay between external influences, personal choices, and mental well-being. Transitioning to Integrative Wellness Solutions in 2016, I expanded my horizons, diving into broader mental health issues. For six enriching years, I worked alongside clients navigating various challenges – from anxiety and depression to life transitions. It was during this time that I honed my skills in understanding the intricate dynamics of the human psyche and the tools required for its healing. In 2022, I joined Mindful Movements, where I continued to aid individuals in their mental health journeys, focusing on the potent synergy between mind and body. The insights gained here solidified my belief in holistic healing, considering not just the mind, but the entire being. Now, in the present, wearing the dual hats of a mental health counselor and business owner at Transformative Healing, I merge my past experiences with my vision for holistic mental wellness. Every step of my journey, every story I've been privileged to be part of, has ingrained in me a profound understanding of human resilience, the power of empathy, and the magic of a listening ear. I share this not just as my professional journey, but as my life's passion. Each chapter has equipped me with invaluable lessons and tools, and I bring all of this to our sessions, ensuring you receive the compassionate, informed care you deserve.
