What does a first session with you look like?

I provide a safe environment where we can set goals together, identify your strengths, and make a plan to use those strengths to achieve the goals we set. We do this first by helping you learn exactly how your problem developed; and then using that information to determine how to move forward to fix the problem. My approach is direct, honest, and nonjudgmental. I also hope to make you laugh as humor is so important in healing. I believe that a sense of humor is pivotal in dealing with life's challenges, and although I take my clients seriously, I never take myself too seriously.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I have been trained in most modalities over the years, but my primary focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). CBT will help you to understand how your negative thoughts affect your mood and how you can change these thoughts into more positive/realistic thinking. It can also help you see yourself and your challenges in a happier, more confident, and more productive way. MI will help you to learn how to motivate yourself to achieve the goals that you desire. This will help in making a goal for us, finding out what is needed to make this goal happen, and then making a plan for achieving it.
