What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?

One of the most profound realizations in my career as a mental health professional is the prevalence of individuals struggling to define their identity and purpose. Many clients grapple with a profound sense of self-discovery and life's meaning. This insight emphasizes the crucial role therapy plays in guiding individuals toward a deeper understanding of themselves, fostering personal growth, and ultimately assisting them in forging a path aligned with their authentic identity and purpose.

In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?

My life and treatment philosophies reflect a harmonious convergence, drawing inspiration from Buddhism, Eastern cultures, and Native American traditions. Embracing these diverse perspectives, I integrate their profound insights into my approach as a mental health professional. This amalgamation emphasizes holistic well-being, mindfulness, and a connection to the natural world. By weaving these philosophies into my practice, I create a therapeutic environment that respects individual uniqueness, fosters self-discovery, and aligns with the principles of compassion and interconnectedness found in these rich cultural traditions.

If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?

If there's one crucial message I wish to convey to those hesitant about therapy, it's that regular mental health check-ups are as vital as dental or annual health check-ups. Seeking therapy isn't solely for those facing crises; it's a proactive step toward overall well-being. Just as we prioritize physical health, mental health is integral to a fulfilling life. Therapy offers a non-judgemental space for self-reflection, personal growth, and equips individuals with valuable tools to navigate life's challenges. It's an investment in your emotional health, fostering resilience and a more enriching existence.

Work History

With 32 years in the US Air Force, starting as a B-52G Navigator, and a Masters from Troy University, I transitioned into civilian life to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida. Specializing in trauma and PTSD, particularly among veterans and first responders, I hold a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC) credential. My therapeutic toolkit includes EMDR and ART. Integrating humanistic principles, I believe in individual growth and self-actualization. Informed by Buddhism, Taoism, and Native American culture, I offer a holistic, humanistic, and pragmatic approach.
