Get To Know Me
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach to therapy is practical first. Most of my clients — the majority of them men, though this applies to many of my female clients too — aren't coming in to talk endlessly about their feelings. They want to understand what's going wrong, get concrete tools they can actually use, and start seeing real change in their anger, their anxiety, their relationships, and their lives. That's exactly what I'm here to help with.
I draw from several well-researched therapy approaches — including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and psychodynamic work — but I don't apply them rigidly. Every client I work with is different, and I tailor my approach to fit you specifically: your goals, your personality, and what you're actually dealing with.
In practical terms, that means most of our work will involve building real, tangible skills — things you can understand clearly, remember easily, and start applying in your day-to-day life right away. We'll work on recognizing your triggers, understanding the thoughts that fuel your reactions, and developing a personal toolkit that helps you respond to stress, frustration, and conflict in ways that actually work for you.
For some clients, the skill-building is enough — and that's perfectly fine. For others who are curious about going a little deeper, we can also explore where some of these patterns come from: how your experiences over the years have shaped the way you automatically react to things, and where it might be useful to update some of those reactions. It's not for everyone, but for those who are open to it, that kind of self-awareness tends to make the practical tools work even better and the changes last longer.
I'm direct, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to. I won't sit quietly staring at you. We'll have real conversations, and I'll challenge you when it's useful — while always keeping your goals front and center.

Education
The Wright Institute, Doctorate of Psychology, Clinical Psychology, 2010 — My Doctorate in Clinical Psychology is from The Wright Institute, a program deeply rooted in the practitioner-scholar model with rigorous training in evidence-based therapies including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approaches, and mindfulness-based interventions. For my doctoral dissertation, I chose to research driving anger and road rage — an early signal of my deep and focused interest in anger as a clinical specialty. That research laid the foundation for nearly two decades of specialized work helping adults understand, manage, and reduce problematic anger in their lives.
Since earning my doctorate, I have become a recognized national authority on anger management and road rage, serving as a media consultant and expert source for ABC News, CBS News, NPR, Men's Health, the Huffington Post, and dozens of other outlets. I have helped hundreds of clients — many of them men who had never tried therapy before — learn to tame their anger, communicate more effectively, and regain calm and confidence in their relationships and daily lives.
My work with men is a particular focus. I understand the cultural pressures men face around emotional expression, and I've built a practice specifically designed to be a good fit for men who are skeptical of therapy but ready to make real change.
Work HistoryBefore becoming a psychologist, I spent over 15 years in business management and human resources — watching up close how unmanaged anger and stress quietly damaged careers and relationships. That shaped the kind of therapist I became.
I earned my doctorate from The Wright Institute in Berkeley and wrote my doctoral dissertation on road rage and driving anger — the beginning of a career-long specialization in anger. I'm a Certified Specialist in Anger Management (CSAM) and an Active Full Member of the National Anger Management Association, and over nearly 20 years in practice I've become a recognized national authority on anger and road rage, consulting for ABC News, CBS News, NPR, Men's Health, and many others.
Anxiety is the other area I've invested heavily in — completing Advanced Training in Treating Anxiety Disorders, a Certificate in Advanced Treatment of Social Anxiety, and Advanced CBT training. CBT (essentially, learning to recognize and change the thought patterns that drive how we feel and behave) is at the core of how I work with both anger and anxiety.
I've trained and worked across outpatient clinics, residential treatment programs, substance recovery facilities, and college counseling centers, and I later supervised therapists and taught doctoral students at The Wright Institute. That range of experience — combined with my prior career in the real world — is a big part of why I connect especially well with men who are skeptical of therapy but ready to actually do something about what's going on.
