In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
We all have life experiences- some more tragic, while others are beginning to forge their path. We all can get stuck at times, feeling like we're on a sunfish in the middle of a tsunami. It is how and with whom, we come out on the shore- ragged, stronger, and feeling like we can rebuild that allows us to rebuild. I am no different. I have been married, a single parent, moved a lot across town and across country, been betrayed, lied to, and beat up. I also have close friends that I have known since I was little and created solid friendships in every state where I have lived. I am a survivor of many things and have used that feeling to stand with others in times of great peril and fear. I do not use my experiences to know what it is like for others or push what worked for me onto others. Resiliency is a process of failing and getting another chance to learn about how things failed and how we can do things differently. I will teach you about resiliency and how your thoughts and feelings either keep you stuck or help you change.

Education
University of Utah, Master of Social Work, Criminal Justice, 2005 — Much of my focus was on the Criminal Justice system and understanding criminal profiling. I received an award for my skills in research practice. I completed two internships- one in a crisis stabilization unit in a hospital and the other in the Dept. Juvenile Justice Observation & Assessment Center.
University of Utah, Bachelor of Science, Psychology/Addiction, 2002 — During my undergraduate time, I majored in Psychology and completed my Certification in Addictions (CAC). I worked with juveniles in a group home and completed my work study in the Psychology Dept running clinical trials.
Work HistoryMy work history has been a trip around the country! I started out with various odd jobs, obtained my degrees while working in the Criminal Justice System, with adolescents both incarcerated and on an outpatient basis, to multiple inpatient psychiatric hospitals for adults, to outpatient clinics with adults who have serious mental health disorders, substance abuse centers, and then back and forth between military installations.
I've gone from CT all the way to UT, down to FL/GA, and back up the coast to CT. I started out as a psych tech and worked my way up to Clinical Director for a major substance abuse facility.
During my time with the military (not as Active Duty or Reserves), I have worked in medical clinics and as an outpatient counselor with Fleet and Family. I became a government employee working at the Pentagon in the DiLorenzo Medical Clinic, working alongside Active Duty personnel, helping those working at the Pentagon with combat and sexual trauma, childhood issues, retirement and deployment issues, and general life issues.
I have settled back into CT to branch out on my own and help with family. I am currently doing only virtual therapy so I can help with family issues and reach out to all over CT with a flexible schedule.
I am committed to my work and my clients, providing them with all kinds of tools and creating a strong therapeutic bond to help them work through their issues.
