Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path towards becoming a therapist came about from an environment that encouraged observation of the people around me. I was encouraged to observe behavior and the motivation behind it. This observation led to me reading about psychology and eventually going to college and majoring in Psychology and later, a master's in Marriage and Family Therapy.
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
My personal experiences include a lifetime of military affiliation as a military B.R.A.T., military spouse, and mother of four. These personal experiences have allowed me to come to therapy sessions with more empathy and understanding for the veterans, moms, and career transitioners I serve.
What does a first session with you look like?
The first two sessions are typically intake sessions. During the first session, we will go over your paperwork so that you understand the benefits and limitations of therapy. We will talk about your therapeutic goals as well as go over your assessments. I administer a couple of short assessments so that we can get a baseline for any depression and anxiety you may be feeling. While you are always welcome to ask questions at any point during your sessions, the first session is a good time to ask questions before we get regular sessions scheduled. Starting therapy can be nerve wracking so I make this serious session a little light-hearted as we build rapport and your level of comfort.
