What Was My Path to Becoming a Therapist?
My path to becoming a therapist began with working directly in New York City public schools as a school social worker. I was surrounded every day by children, teens, and families who were carrying far more than anyone realized — stress, trauma, grief, pressure, and unspoken emotional pain. I saw how often people were expected to “push through” without the support they needed.
What stayed with me was how early emotional struggles begin, and how rarely people are given space to slow down, feel, and be understood. Many of the individuals I worked with didn’t have the words for what they were experiencing hey just knew something didn’t feel right. I learned quickly that listening, consistency, and emotional safety could make a real difference.
As my work expanded beyond schools into community and clinical settings, I became even more committed to helping people understand their emotional experiences rather than feel ashamed of them. I was especially drawn to working with individuals, including men, who had learned to carry responsibility quietly, suppress emotions, or stay strong for others at the expense of their own well-being.
I chose this profession because I believe healing happens when people feel seen without judgment and supported without pressure. Therapy, to me, is not about fixing anyone it’s about creating a space where people can be honest, develop insight, and build healthier ways of coping and connecting.
My clinical training, leadership work, and ongoing education continue to shape how I practice, but at the core, my inspiration has always been the same: helping people feel less alone and more equipped to move forward in their lives.

Professional Background

Education
Adelphi University, Master of Social Work, Clinical Social Work, 2007 — I, completed the Advanced Standing Master of Social Work program at Adelphi University, with a clinical focus on assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention.
The program emphasized direct clinical practice, evidence-based treatment approaches, and trauma-informed, culturally responsive care. This training prepared me to work effectively with individuals, couples, families, and men navigating emotional stress, trauma, and major life transitions.
My clinical foundation allows me to provide therapy that is thoughtful, structured, and responsive to each client’s unique needs.
Long Island University, Bachelor of Science, Social Work, 2003 — I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Long Island University, graduating with honors. My academic training emphasized ethical practice, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive approaches to supporting individuals, families, and communities.
Through both formal education and hands-on experience, I developed a strong foundation in understanding how trauma, family systems, and life stressors impact emotional well-being. This grounding informs my therapeutic work today, allowing me to approach each client with intention, respect, and a deep appreciation for their lived experience.
Work HistoryMy Professional Experience
I began my work as a New York City school social worker, supporting children and adolescents navigating emotional, behavioral, and social challenges within public school settings. Working in NYC schools gave me early insight into how anxiety, trauma, anger, and emotional shutdown often appear long before someone knows how to name what they’re feeling.
In schools, I supported students during moments of crisis, helped them build coping skills, and worked closely with families who were often overwhelmed and searching for guidance. This experience taught me how to make support feel approachable, how to meet people where they are, and how to create emotional safety in environments that are often fast-paced and high-pressure.
As my work expanded, I saw a larger need for consistent, high-quality mental health support that didn’t stop at individual sessions. This led me to become the founder and CEO of LERU, a mental health agency focused on providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive services across school and community settings. Through LERU, I have supported thousands of children, adolescents, families, and educators, helping reduce emotional distress and improve day-to-day functioning.
Through this work, I also recognized the importance of early identification and meaningful data in mental health care. This insight led to the development of AssessED by LERU, a mental health assessment and support platform designed to help identify emotional needs earlier, guide appropriate interventions, and ensure individuals receive the right level of support at the right time.
Although my leadership roles involve systems and innovation, my clinical work has always remained grounded in direct human connection. I continue to work closely with individuals, families, and men navigating trauma, burnout, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I understand how difficult it can be to carry responsibility, suppress emotions, or feel unsure about where to begin.
My approach is shaped by hands-on clinical experience, leadership in mental health systems, and a deep respect for each person’s lived experience. Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and centered on helping you feel understood, supported, and empowered to move forward.
