Get To Know Me
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
My Myers-Briggs personality type is INFJ, which may be the rarest personality type of all. INFJs desire to make a difference in the world by helping others and being a force of good. I care about integrity and abide by my values at all times. INFJs often feel called upon to use their strengths to uplift others and spread compassion, and this truly represents me as a therapist. INFJs need to create REAL change in others' lives, which is what I aim to do on a daily basis. I work from a strengths-based approach and my goal is to foster positive change in the lives of others.
What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?
Research shows that, beyond the clinical skills set of a therapist, the most important part of therapy is the counselor-client relationship. If the counselor and the client do not have established rapport and the counselor does not meet the client with compassion, empathy, and respect, then treatment is moot. The therapist can be the *best* therapist in the world, but that client will barely gain anything from their sessions. I cherish my ability to develop deep, meaningful relationships with my clients, in which I am able to gain their trust. This is what allows me to best help my clients become their best self.
What do you like about the practice or clinic you currently work at?
I currently own my own practice, Aurora Counseling Center LLC.
