What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
When I was in high school I started having issues with a racing heart, feeling full of adrenaline, shortness of breath, dizziness, and much more. Of course, being a teenage girl, I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and sent to therapy, which started my eight year journey of being treated for a mental health condition I didn't have. I was committed to the therapeutic process and became incredibly depressed because I wasn't getting better despite all the effort I was putting in to therapy. Eventually, a doctor identified that my anxiety symptoms were actually postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. From that moment I became passionate about the accurate diagnosis of mental health conditions and decided to become a social worker. I strive to be a provider that is competent in treating individuals living with chronic illnesses and mental health conditions. I stay up to date on research related to physical health conditions, attend continuing education programs for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and collaborate closely with my client's doctors to make sure their physical health needs are being taken care of.

Education
University of Cincinnati, Master of Social Work, Social Work, 2024
Work HistoryDuring my graduate school internship I had the opportunity to facilitate therapy groups for individuals with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, learn somatic experiencing therapy, and learn about various approaches to treating trauma. I'm a huge research nerd and got to be involved in research throughout my graduate degree as a research assistant. My research focused on substance use disorders and the impact physical illness has on mental health. I spent two and a half years working at an adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy program and really enjoyed working with adolescents and their families.
