In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?

One thing I've learned as an imperfect human being is that our past does not define us; it informs us. My work is about empowering people who have felt as if they have been powerless, whether that is over their own body, mind and/or spirit. I am passionate about healing core wounds from childhood trauma, helping clients find their voice and using it. My clients learn that it is okay to have boundaries, it's okay to respond instead of reacting, to feel free to express their emotions no matter how BIG and learn how to regulate those big emotions, as well, so they may also feel peaceful. Integrating parts of self, during the process of therapy, is salient to developing a true sense of self and the feeling of empowerment. With this said, it is so important that clients also feel empowered within the therapy session so interpersonal work and practice is encouraged.

Work History

I've gained a lot of workplace experience since 1986 and most of my work required communication skills and efficacy. Customer service has been a mainstay throughout my careers and changes. I do strive to meet my clients where they are in the first session and then create a safe space for them to explore their thoughts and feelings. My focus is always the client in the here and now and helping them connect dots to the past that helps explain their challenges and behaviors. As an educator, I worked with high school students and still enjoy assisting young people in finding their voice and learning how to cope with uncomfortable feelings. In recent years, I've worked almost exclusively with female clients who have experienced emotional abuse from intimate partners or from parent wounds. Most of these clients inevitably suffer from anxiety, low self-esteem and depressive symptoms. My approach to therapy is collaborative, it's here and now with a focus on how the past effects current relationships, personal behaviors and emotions and patterns and inner child healing work.
