Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I had a very toxic childhood and without a few good, solid mental health providers pouring into me, I wouldn't be here today. At the age of 10, I felt called to do the same for other kids that were in the same situations I was, and it has been a labor of love, learning, growing, and trying to better myself and finding just the right niche.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
Two main things:
1. growing up with a lot of drama and "stuff," I am keenly aware that it has No place in the therapy room; in fact, that is usually the reason kids are here in the first place. Therefore, I do not play into drama and the like from parents.
2. I am just a big kid myself. So, I love to get messy and do art, play games, etc. with the kids. Play Therapy is my main modality and this fits me well. Otherwise, because I am an 'out-of-the-box' thinker and don't believe in a cookie cutter approach, I don't stick to one theoretical approach but am more eclectic.
