What is your style/approach to therapy?
I believe in targeting the root of the issue, and lifting the veil of the parts you were conditioned to believe are unacceptable and shameful to bring about peace and clarity. My therapeutic approach is direct, nonjudgmental, patient and empathic utilizing psychodynamic therapy which just means discussing a lot of your past especially from childhood. As well as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which just means uncovering distorted thinking patterns and discovering other perspectives and possibilities. After finding out where and how it started, we can work collaboratively to change it or at the least reduce it's influence on you. You will gain a better understanding of yourself, motivations, intentions, and triggers to make more informed decisions, work towards breaking old patterns, increase self-esteem and self-worth, develop healthier eating habits progress and become more comfortable with you. Collaborating with a dietician and your PCP may also be helpful to meet your goals.
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
Goals are determined by collaborating with the client and exploring what he/she wants to work on, and offering suggestions based on what is discussed.
Are there any recurring themes or issues you’ve noticed as you treat people in your area of specialization, and how has this insight guided your approach?
The main themes I have seen lack of self-esteem and low self-worth which is rooted in rejection and feeling unacceptable, typically engineered from childhood. It has helped me to see how much damage can be inflicted on children and can last for years in adulthood where people struggle with self-acceptance and self-love.
